A key feature of this piece was the ability for users to swap between horizon charts and area charts to understand the data. A horizon chart is an area chart that is sliced horizontally and who’s slices get stacked on top of each other. The animation between the two chart types makes the relationship clear.
Horizon charts are less common but can encode a lot of information in a small space, while area charts are already widely used and understood.
